Port Blair, July 5: As part of the month long celebration of 67th Vanmahotsav-2016, a rally was organized by the Havelock Forest Division from the Jetty, Govind Nagar-01 to the premises of School ground of Govt. Sr. Sec. School Havelock on Monday. Mr Shaji P Abraham, Divisional Forest Officer Havelock Forest Division started the rally by waving the flag at about 0900 hours from the Jetty, Govind Nagar. The rally proceeded with banners and slogans by the school students and other staff on importance and protection of Forests and Environment and reached the premises of school ground of Govt. Sr. Sec. School, Havelock at about 1000 hours. About 200 people including school students with their teachers, other, other departmental staff along with the forest officials actively participated in the rally. Meanwhile, a rally was also organised in Neil Island on today the 04th July, 2016. Mr Rama Krishna Biswas, Pradhan, Gram Panchayat, Neil Island was the chief guest on the occasion and the rally was started from Govt. Sr. Sec. School, Neil Kendra to Neil Island jetty.
The rally concluded with a plantation ceremony in the premises of school ground of Govt. Sr. Sec. School, Govinda Nagar, Havelock. Mr. Apoorva Chandra Roy, Pramukh, Panchayat Samiti, Prothrapur, Port Blair was the chief guest of the occasion. Besides, the PRI members Smt Shika Rani Mistry, Pradhan, Gram Panchayat, Shyam Nagar, Havelock, Mr Alok Mridha, Samiti Member, Shyam Nagar, Mr. Jithin Gharami, Sarpanch, Mr. Alpha Roy, Up-Pradhan, teachers and students of GSSS, Havelock and Govt. Middle School, Kalapathar and general public of Havelock also attend the function in large number. The program itself was an appeal to the general public towards the importance and conservation of forests of these Islands. Earlier, Miss. R. Prema Mary, Forest Guard welcomed the gathering. Mr Hari Dass, Deputy Ranger, Havelock Forest Division proposed the vote of thanks.
