Port Blair, June 15: The Lt. Governor reviewed the progress of the pending issues in a meeting convened at Raj Niwas on 15.06.2016, which was attended by PCCF (ANI) and other senior officers of the Department. The PCCF (ANI) informed that the Chairman and Amicus curie of the Central Empowered Committee (CEC) during their visit to these Islands had inspected the Naval Air Station (NAS), Shibpur, Diglipur in connection with the clearance required for the development of infrastructure with the Representatives of INS Utkrosh of Andaman Nicobar Command. During the said visit, the CEC had also called for certain information pertaining to the Defence Project of Extension of the Runway and NAS, Shibpur for meeting the operational requirement of the Command for its consideration.
The PCCF (ANI) also appraised the Lt.Governor of the action taken by the Department in regard to the declaration of Eco-sensitive Zone (ESZ) in respect of 96 Islands Protected Areas (PAs) and that of Cuthbert Bay Wildlife Sanctuary and Saddle Peak National Park.
As regards, the release of balance quantity of sea sand, it was informed that the requisite permission was likely to be granted by the Ministry shortly.
In so far as the opening of Tarmugli and preparation of Integrated Island Management Plan (IIMP) and Island Coastal Regulation Zone Plan (ICRZP) of Andaman & Nicobar Islands was concerned, the Lt. Governor desired that the issues may be attended to with the utmost promptitude and cadastral maps required from the Revenue Department by the Deputy Commissioners be sent to the National Centre for Sustainable Coastal Management (NCSCM), Chennai without much further delay. As regards the holistic development of Islands, the Lt. Governor asked the Department to give its inputs to the Secretary (Tourism) who had already been assigned the task to submit the brief to the Planning Commission.
The Lt. Governor expressed his satisfaction with the progress of the works and impressed upon the officers to pursue matter pending with the Ministry to take them to the logical conclusion for the greater good of the people of Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
