Port Blair, June 15: The Secretary (AH/Agri/Fy), Smt R.Menaka toured Kamorta, Katchal and Car Nicobar Islands from June 9 to 13 to review the functioning of the Departments. She visited the Composite Livestock Farm, Agricultural Multi-Purpose Farm, Fisheries Sub Station, Veterinary Dispensary at Kamorta. The inspection of Veterinary Dispensary, Spices Progeny Orchard Farm and Fisheries Sub Station at Katchal was undertaken. Similarly at Car Nicobar inspection of the Multipurpose Agricultural Farm, Rural Knowledge Centre, Composite Livestock Farm Arong and Veterinary Dispensary was made. The ongoing work of the Fish Landing Centre at Tee Top village was inspected.
A meeting of the Chairman, Tribal Council and other first captains of the villages was conducted at Kakana, Japan Tikery, Katchal and Car Nicobar along with the KisanBhaitak. Field visit to ChotaEnaka, Pilpillow and Kakana villages were made to interact with the farmers to assess their needs. An inspection of the RCC Ring Wells under construction sanctioned recently by the Department of Agriculture was also made.
During the visit, various directions were given to improve the functioning of the departments like increase in provision of livestock inputs to tribals, operationalization of the hatchery unit, establishment of dairy demonstration units , support for cultivation of Vegetables and Food Crops, Mushroom Cultivation, covering of all left out fishermen for issue of Bio Metric ID cards during the mop up round etc.
