Port Blair, May 31: To create awareness and encourage students (young generation) to adopt agricultural activities, the scheme for “Promoting Gardening in Education Institutions” is being implemented by the Agriculture Department for the year 2016-17. In the first phase, 20 schools under the scheme will be selected. Any School, having a minimum of 200 sq.m vacant land to take up vegetable cultivation can apply for the scheme. Technical guidance and Agriculture inputs worth Rs. 10,000/- will be provided to each selected school by the Agriculture Department. Assistance will be provided for a period of one year to a particular school. The officials of Agriculture Department will visit the school periodically and train the students in the agriculture activities. The scheme will not only encourage students in agriculture, but will also help in cultivating vegetables within the school premises for the use of the students.
