Port Blair, May 10: In a big respite for the resident of Neil Island coping with severe water crisis, the District Administration and the MP have pledged to provide two RO plants for the region. According to reports, the Deputy Commissioner of South Andaman has already instructed the Tehsildar to provide land for the RO Plants proposed to the set up at Ramnagar and Bharatpur villages.
“Inadequate drinking water supply has been long haunting the villages of Neil Island. Of the two RO plants sanctioned for Neil Island, only once was commissioned by Zilla Parishad. The plant, however, become in-operational recently and villagers had to tread to the plant to fetch potable water. The sultry weather conditions prevailing now have made the task more tiresome these days,” said some villagers of Neil Island.
Speaking to Andaman Sheekha, the Pradhan of Neil Island, Mr Ram Kishen admitted that water crisis has been major problem for the villagers of his constituency. The concern was placed before the Deputy Commissioner of South Andaman recently and installation of two RO plants have been ordered promptly. One plant will cater to the requirements of Ramnagar and Sitapur villages, while the other will supply water to Bharatpur. The Deputy Commissioner has also instructed the Tehsildar to identify and allocate land for early installation of the RO Plants, said the Pradhan.
