Port Blair, Apr 22: Director General Rajendra Singh PTM, TM Director General Indian Coast Guard will be visiting A&N Islands 23-26 Apr 16. The DGICG is on maiden visit to the Coast Guard Region (A&N) after assuming charge of the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) as the twenty second Director General on 27 Feb 16. He is the first regular Coast Guard officer to have been elevated to the rank of the Director General.
The flag officer is an alumni of the Garhwal University, Dehradun. He joined the ICG on 29 Dec 1980 in the General Duty cadre. In his distinguished career spanning over three and half decades, the officer has had an impeccable track record and also held various key operational and staff appointments. He has a rare distinction to his credit for successfully commanding of all classes of ICG ships. He has commanded the Eastern and Western region of Coast Guard which implied the command of more than 2/3rd of the fleet and support units of the service. The officer is a Maritime Search and Rescue specialist and has undergone training with the United States Coast Guard. He has also successfully completed the reputed National Security Course from the Lal Bahadur Shastri Academy, Mussoorie.
The flag Officer in his previous appointment as the Additional Director General Coast Guard has provided the necessary flip towards overall growth and modernization of the service. It is under his visionary leadership that many projects towards capacity building and welfare of personnel have been initiated and many milestones achieved. This has brought the Indian Coast Guard amongst the 4th largest Coast Guard of the world.
Mrs Urmila Singh, President Coast Guard Wives Welfare Association will also be accompanying the Director General during the visit.
