Port Blair, April 21: In a swift SAR operation on Wednesday, the Indian Coast Guard Ship C-416 based at Mayabunder commanded by Deputy Commandant Sharan P rescued fishing boat MV Powmay along with seven crew off Barren Island at a distance of 120 Km from Coast Guard Station Mayabunder. Fishing boat MV Powmay Reg No: IND-AN-MV-MO-28 along with seven crew had departed Mayabunder for fishing on March 17. The fishing boat went adrift off Barren Island due to engine failure. MV Infinity saw the fishing boat and communicated to MRCC (Port Blair). The Coast Guard Regional Headquarters and MRCC (Port Blair) swung into action and deployed ICGS C-416 from Mayabunder for rescue operation. The fishing boat MV Powmay along with seven crew were towed back safely and handed over to Fishery Department, Mayabunder in the wee hours of Thursday.
