Port Blair, April 18: The Govt. of India has chalked out programmes to organize Swachhta Pakhwada under the Swachh Bharat Mission from April 1, 2016 to March 31, 2017. The period from April 16-30 has been dedicated on the theme “Heritage places and Monuments”. In accordance with the instructions of Govt. of India and on the occasion of “World Heritage Day”, the Municipal Council organized a cleanliness drive at National Memorial Cellular Jail on Monday. The drive also covered the Clock Tower at Aberdeen Bazar one of the recognized monuments in Port Blair city.
The Drive was focused towards cleaning in and around campus of National Memorial followed by beautification of the Veer Savarkar Park and cleanliness in and around clock tower, Aberdeen Bazar. The event was led by Mr Vijay Prasad Tiwari, Sanitary Officer with the active participation of Sanitary Team supervised by Mr Ajay Kishen, Senior Sanitary Inspector and Mr. Pradeep Kumar Chowdhury, Sanitary Inspector and the Park Section of Port Blair Municipal Council. The drive was witnessed by Director of Sports, Arts & Culture, A & N Administration.
The drive finally concluded with awareness to the Tourist visiting National Memorial, Cellular Jail at the time of the drive with the request for keeping our Heritage and monuments in and around Port Blair city clean. The awareness was done by Swachhta Awareness team under the supervision of Mr Vijay Kumar, Senior Sanitary Inspector.
