Port Blair, April 18: In an impressive ceremony, Offshore Patrol Vessel ICGS Vishwast and Fast Patrol Vessel ICGS Rajveer were inducted in Coast Guard, A & N Region on Monday. Inspector General Kuldip Singh Shoreon PTM, TM, Commander, Coast Guard Region (A&N) unveiled the plague and formally welcomed the ships into Coast Guard fleet in the A&N region. Speaking on the occasion, COMCG (A&N) mentioned that these assets will enhance Coast Guard surveillance capability in the island territory. Both the ships are fitted with state-of-the-art equipment, sensors and machinery.
ICGS Vishwast 94m long ship has a displacement of 1840 tons. The ship can achieve a speed of 25 knots and capable of carry helicopter onboard for extended reach. Similarly, ICGS Rajveer is 50 m long and can achieve a speed of 35 knots with three water jets powered by three MTU engine of power 2030 KW. More Coast Guard ships are planned to be based in the A&N Islands on availability of dedicated berthing, fuelling, ops infrastructure and other allied facilities in various stations in the islands.
The Coast Guard Region (A&N) also bids adieu to ICGS Varad, which has been rebased after rendering ten years yeomen service in the islands for her next assignment at Chennai.
