Mayabunder, Apr 01: The students of MG Government College, Mayabunder organized a rally in memory of Ritu Kumari a student of the college who was recently killed in a road accident at Sippighat, Port Blair due to alleged rash driving of a private bus driver.
Nearly one hundred students gathered near Mayabunder helipad at about 3.15 pm and marched towards DC Office. The rally culminated near main bazaar with a public address by student leaders.
Two minute silence was observed for the departed soul. The students who spoke, emphasized on the issue of stern action against the erring vehicle drivers, awareness programmes for the bus drivers and other public transport drivers. The law enforcing agencies should work on curbing the practice of over speeding of vehicles and also arrange to provide close circuit camera in various junctions and accident prone areas.
