Port Blair, March 30: Determined to curb the menace of Narcotics Drugs & Psychotropic Substances from Andaman & Nicobar Islands and in attempt to wipe out the evil of drugs from the society, the Criminal Investigation Department of A&N Police seized 9 kilos of Contraband (Marijuana) timely before the illegal consignment could reach the receiver.
On Tuesday, a tip off was received from reliable source about arrival of a suspected parcel in Post Office. A raiding team of PS Central Crime Station was constituted for intercepting the alleged parcel before it is delivered to the intended recipient. The raiding team led by SI Sahil Shamsuddin immediately swung into action and intercepted the alleged parcel which was delivered to a residential address with a non-existent recipient at DP Street, Haddo. On examination of parcel, 9 kilos of Marijuana was seized under the cover of seizure Memo after observing all codal formalities. FIR has been lodged in this regard and investigation is on to nab the sender and intended receiver of the contraband.
The entire operation was conducted under the guidance of Inspr. D Jagdeeshwar Rao, SHO PS CCS and Mr SK Goswami, DySP(CID) under the overall supervision of Mr Atmaram Deshpande, Superintendent of Police (CID).
The general public have been requested to pass credible information pertaining to gambling, illegal sale or possession of liquor/drugs or any other illegal activity on the following telephone numbers- 100, 232586, 9434289985, 9531856173 & 233307. The identity of the informer will be kept secret.
