Port Blair, March 27: The Baratang has slowly emerged as a must go destination for all tourists, visiting Andaman and Nicobar Islands but it lacks decent hotels and guest houses. Although, presently there are three guest houses at Baratang, each of Forest, Nilambur Panchayat and APWD but those rooms are neither decent nor easily available.
To deal with this problem, the Tourism Department, Andaman & Nicobar Islands has approached the District Commissioner, Mayabunder to allot them a land at Baratang Island for construction of a Guest House.
The Tourism Department has already decided to promote the North and Middle Andaman Tourism in a big way and construction of a Guest House by Tourism Department will be a part of this plan.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha recently, Dr P Vishwakannan said that Port Blair as well as Havelock is already full with the tourists therefore now the Department is thinking to divert theTourists to North & Middle Andamans also.
“After the construction of the two Bridges in ATR tourism will certainly get a boost in North and Middle Andaman and as Baratang has a lot to offer to the tourists, the department has already approached the DC of N & M Andaman to allot a piece of land to Tourism Department at Baratang,” Dr Vishwakannan said.
He added that by one to two years the department will have a Guest House at Baratang.
