Port Blair, Mar 21: The Director, Operations (East India & South East Asia) of Indigo Airline, Shri. Vijay Matta, during a meeting held with the Secretary, Civil Aviation Shri. N.K. Sharma in Secretariat Port Blair on 18th March, 2016 informed that their planning is on final stage for commencement of scheduled flights on sector Kolkata-Port Blair-Kolkata and Chennai-Port Blair-Chennai from June, 2016.
In this regard, it may be recalled that the Civil Aviation department of A & N Administration had been vigorously pursuing the matter with Indigo Airline for commencement of their scheduled flights to Port Blair for improving connectivity. The Secretary, Civil Aviation assured the Director, Indigo airline to extend all support to the airline in their venture and also requested him to explore the possibility of starting international flights from Port Blair to destinations like Singapore, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur or Phuket which are in very close proximity of Port Blair.
