Port Blair, Jan 19: The Adhyaksha, South Andaman Zilla Parishad, Smt Minati Biswas, along with Smt Bhagyaswari and Mr Raj Govind, Zilla Parishad members visited Little Andaman recently to inspect the progress of ongoing works under rural roads water supply and other schemes of the Zilla Parishad.
Smt Minati Biswas met the Union Minister of State (Independent Charge), Environment, Forests & Climate Change, Mr Prakash Javadekar during his visit to Little Andaman and apprised him about the requirements of the general public of the area viz. new electricity power house at R.K.Pur with all necessary provisions, granting permission by the Forest Department for cutting Bamboos, Balli etc. for construction of Katcha Houses, Little Andaman should be declared as Tourist Place, Fisheries Jetty to be constructed in the Dinghi Ghat, proper demarcation of C R Zone, she also demanded for provision of better ship connectivity, better education facility to the school going children and better communication facility etc.. She also requested the Minister for allotment of land alongwith basic facilities like electricity and water connection etc. for the poor Islanders of these islands, who have been residing in forest areas for long.
The Adhyaksha also interacted with the local people of that area and found that many developmental works are to be carried out in the place viz. Construction of Helipad in R.K.Pur, Construction of Jetty at Bimla Creek, CHC needs to be set up, shipping services are to be improved, Construction of Guest House by the Zilla Parishad, the existing Stadium constructed by the Department of Sports, Arts & Culture needs urgent and major repairs, it has been a long pending demand to set up Assistant Commissioner Office at R.K.Pur, a Musical Prasikshan Kendra needs to be set up at R. K. Pur especially for the local girl child who are interested in Music, Dance etc. as they should not be left behind simply because they are residing in the far flung Islands.
Smt Biswas also noticed that Rabindra Nagar which is a newly declared Panchayat requires certain important developmental works to be taken up immediately viz. Construction of Fish Market, Vegetable Market, setting up of R.O.Plant, dumping yard etc. and assured people to take necessary action immediately.
