Port Blair, Jan 18: The Block Congress Committee, Baratang organized a mass Dharna under the Chairmanship of Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma, President, Pradesh Congress Committee on 17/01/2016 from 0900Hrs at Baratang demanding immediate settlement of long pending grievances of the people of Baratang such as regularization of old Forest encroachments, allotment of alternate land to Forest dept. at Nayagrah in place of Survey No. 1 & 33 of Nilambur village, issue of sea sand permit at Baratang island instead of Hutbay, declaration of Khattkhari village as notified village, allotment of land for playground for Govt. Sr. Sec School, Oralkatcha, allotment of land for construction of Community Hall at Nilambur panchayat, allotment of land for construction of parking place at Nilambur jetty area, construction of sea wall from Nilambur Jetty to fisheries colony (Khadi Basthi), reopening of Tiger Quarry, construction of CC road from fish market to France’s house at Nilambut jetty, resurvey to indentify new way 200-300 Mtr. Away from the existing way without disturbing residential area at Nilambur Panchayat area, providing drinking water facility at Rajatghar (Khattan) Khttakgari and Baludera village, installation of solar plant in encroachment areas i.e. cave area, Kukur Buka, Mirchi Tikri and Bamboo Tikri, Regularization of services of DRMS in Forest and APWD departments, allotment of house site to fishermen families, resurvey between forest and revenues area and resettlement of Baratang island and construction of rural road from ATR to Kanchangarh Village.
The Dharna was attended by Senior Congress leaders as S/Shri Paridosh Halder, RV Reddy, Ranglal, AR Manickam, P. Prasad, Noor Islam, AR Andan, Masihlugum, Smti Mariyam Bibi, Smti Ratnam Kannan in addition to large number of general public.
