Port Blair, Dec 16: The Union Power Minister, Mr Piyush Goyal appreciated the students of Govt. Model Senior Secondary School Port Blair for their concerns expressed relating to the energy crises. During the video conferencing programme held on Tuesday at NIC Port Blair, the students while interacting with Mr Goyal asked what are the steps the Govt. is going to take to explore the possibilities of using the renewable sources of Energy in A&N Islands. Mitali Singh a student of class IX asked why in the Islands we relies only upon diesel for power generation. Instead other means should be explored.
The Minister in his reply said that the Govt. is putting stress on using the renewable sources of energy for power generation. So far as the Andaman & Nicobar Islands are concerned, there are so many means of such kind of energy, like solar energy, wind energy, wave energy and bio mass. Mr Goyal informed the students that the Ministry is working on it and very soon the results can be seen.
Mr Goyal said that he will visit the Islands in January next year and would be happy to meet the students of the Model School too.
The students who took part in the programme were P.Naseeba Bibi, Keya Mitra, Laya Shree, Shariya Taneem, T. Pawan, T.Uday Kumar, T.Praveen, Varun Selva Raj, J Rakesh and Mitali Singh under the guidance of Mr Jai Shankar Yadav(GTT), Smt Baby Nazrana (Headmistress) and Dr. Dheeraj Kumar (Principal), Govt. Model Senior Secondary School, Port Blair.
The video conferencing was organized by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency of Power Ministry, in which students of 26 schools from the different parts of the country participated.
