Port Blair, Dec 11: During Chennai Floods when people were trying to help each other and Airlines Companies like Air India agreed to operated Chartered flight, the SpiceJet official reportedly refused to offer any kind of concession to Andaman Students, who were stranded at Chennai. Not only this, the officials of SpiceJet at Chennai office were impolite to Andaman’s government officials who approached them for some concessional tickets.
Thankfully not every private airline were rude, the Jet Airlines offered nearly 20 to 25 tickets (Chennai to Port Blair) in concessional rates for Andaman Students, when they were approached by Senior Officials of Andaman and Nicobar Administration. Air India, undoubtedly played a very positive role during the crisis.
When Contacted Mohd. Aslam, Dy.SP South Andaman told Andaman Sheekha that during Chennai Floods he was sent to Chennai for overseeing the rescue work of Stranded Andaman Passengers.
He said that the Deputy Resident Commissioner of Chennai and his entire team worked day and night, tirelessly to arrange shelter and food for every stranded Islander at Chennai. According to Mohd Aslam because of hard work of Civil Aviation unit and DRC Chennai, flight tickets could be arranged for almost all stranded Islanders at Chennai. He added that the Lt. Governor himself was monitoring the situation during this crisis.
