Port Blair, Nov 24: A sensitization programme was conducted on Disaster Management & Preparedness for officials/Staffs of State Cooperative Bank, A&N Islands in the conference Hall of Directorate of Disaster Management, A&N Administration on Tuesday.
Mr Gyan Singh, Assistant Director (Log.), DM briefed about the various types of disasters. In his presentation, he elaborated them on the vulnerability profile of this UT. The participants were made aware that Islands are highly susceptible to disasters of varied intensities yet though we cannot prevent these natural phenomenon, but definitely with a holistic and a meticulous approach & plan we can mitigate the impact. He also explained preparedness mechanism and functions of Disaster Management and State Emergency Operation Centre.
Mr Deen Mohammed, Safety Officer, DM explained about the Emergency Communication System of this UT and practically demonstrated the communication equipments and its functions in State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC). He further elaborated the messaging system of SEOC and shared the emergency contacts numbers of SEOC with the participants.
Mr Janik Ram, Asst. Director (Admn.), DM gave detailed information about the importance of DM plan of the office along with different types of disaster, and also dwelled on the impact of the disaster in the working place with regard to preparation of survival kit and how to identify emergency evacuation routes during the disaster etc.
Welcoming the gathering, Mr Sanjay Balan, Director (DM) i/c explained the ins and outs of the different aspects of disaster management viz. response, preparedness and mitigation strategies.
