Port Blair, Nov 19: The 30th foundation day was celebrated at IGNOU Regional Centre here on Thursday. Dr. S.Vijayaragavan, Regional Director (i/c) presided over the function and he emphasized that the higher education provided by IGNOU in India as well as abroad is remarkable service, including the use of communication technology, to provide opportunities for higher education to a large segment of the population and to promote the educational well being of the peoples through distance education systems and also to coordinate and determine the standards in education. IGNOU played a vital role to develop the socio-economic status of the people through education in A & N Islands. He also offered floral tributes at the portrait of Smt.Indira Gandhi on her birth anniversary. All staff of the Regional Centre attended the function.
