Port Blair, Nov 13: ICAR-KrishiVigyan Kendra, CIARI, N&M Andaman organized a three days training programme on “Pond based integrated farming system” at Pareshnagar. The training was inaugurated by Smt. Sabestia Lakra, Pradhan, Basantipur, in presence of Shri Bikash Bose, Ward Member, Pareshnagar-II, Dr. B. L. Kasinath, Senior Scientist & Head, KVK, N&M Andaman and others. In her inaugural speech Smt Sabestia Lakra, lauded the efforts of KVK in organizing trainings on very relevant topics and requested constant guidance by KVK for local farmers on adoption of new technologies for better development of farming communities. Dr. Shailesh Kumar, SMS (Fisheries)& course coordinator briefed about the three days training programme and urged the farmers and participants to adopt integrated approach of farming for improved returns in a sustainable way. Dr. B. L. Kasinath, Senior Scientist & Head had detailed discussion on role of KVK in strengthening rural farming and contribution of horticultural crops in establishing an effective integrated farming system. Farmers and farmwomen were also apprised about role of integrated farming in serving balanced diet to household whereas Dr. PoojaKapoor, SMS gave detailed account of nutrients available in fruits and vegetables and their health benefits.
Experts of KVK had interactive sessions on different components of pond based integrated farming system viz Agriculture cum fish farming cum animal husbandry during three days programme. Visuals were also showed to the participants on scientific methods of farming developed by ICAR institutes. A total of 28 farmers participated in the training programme. The training was organised under the guidance of Dr. B. L. Kasinathand Dr. Nagesh Ram and under the supervision of Dr. S. Dam Roy, Director, CIARI, Port Blair.
