Port Blair, Nov 10: The Army Component of the Andaman and Nicobar Command organized a grand Diwali Mela on Nov 9 and 10, 2015 at Nariyal Bageecha in Birchgunj Military Station. The mela received an overwhelming response from armed forces personnel and their families of all the component and religions, reflecting the secular nature of the uniformed fraternity. The aim of the Diwali Mela was to provide a safe, clean and complete festive environment for celebrating this year’s Diwali.
Diwali mela was inaugurated by Smt Sharmishta Chatterjee President, Defence Wives Welfare Association of Command on Nov 10. Large number of food stalls along with games stalls were set up at the venue. Stalls were also put up by Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard Components of the ANC. Welfare associations of Army, Air Force, Navy and Coast Guard had also put up their stalls. The Diwali Mela culminated with a grand display of fireworks. The Diwali Mela also gave an opportunity to all serving personnel and families to interact with each other and celebrate the festival lights together, furthering the jointmanship and oneness of the Armed Forces.
Vice Admiral Pradeep K Chatterjee, PVSM, AVSM, NM, Commander-in-Chief, Andaman and Nicobar Command also visited Diwali Mela and wished all ranks and families a very Happy Diwali.
