Port Blair, Nov 09: A series of earthquakes (light to moderate and one strong earthquake) ranging from 4.2 to 6.4 M(magnitudes) in the Richter scale was felt in the Nicobar group of Islands since 1534 hrs of 8th, Nov, 2015 and jolted Nicobar Island Region for 20 times till report came in at 1500 hrs. on 9th, Nov, 2015.
The epicenter of the quake was between 4.78 North Latitude and 95.04 East Longitude. The earthquake was felt mostly at Campbell Bay and Nicobar Islands. The District Administration immediately alerted the PRI members and tribal council. Situation report is being collected regularly.
No damages have been reported. Situation is normal in A&N Islands and is being closely monitored.
The A&N Administration is fully geared up to tackle the situation. The Directorate of Disaster Management with state of the art communication facilities is monitoring the situation from its State Emergency Operation Centre 24×7 and has alerted all the stakeholders and other 9 Emergency Operation Centers situated at different Islands including Campbell Bay, Kamorta and Car Nicobar.
The Lt Governor himself is personally monitoring the situation and is issuing instructions where ever required.
