Port Blair, Oct 30: The Non-Gazetted Govt. Officers’ Association, Andaman and Nicobar Islands has protested against the decision of the Education Department to depute teachers to a Workshop being organized by the Andaman & Nicobar Teachers’ Association on 31st October, 2015 at TGCE, Port Blair.
In a letter sent to the Secretary-cum-Director of Education, A & N Islands, Shri T.S. Sreekumar, General Secretary of the Non-Gazetted Govt. Officers’ Association drew her attention to the letter dated 28th October, 2015 issued to the Deputy Education Officers of South Andaman and Wimberlygunj Zones by the Deputy Director of Education (Acad.), Directorate of Education directing them to depute teachers to participate in the above-said Workshop on 31st October, 2015, a school working day, from 9 a.m. to 4.15 p.m.
In the said letter, specific direction was given to the Deputy Education Officers to depute 10 teachers from Senior Secondary Schools, 5 teachers from Secondary Schools and 2 teachers from Primary Schools for the said programme.
The Non-Gazetted Govt. Officers’ Association told the Secretary-cum-Director of Education that issuing such a direction was nothing but official patronage extended to a particular Association by the Education Department.
The Association brought to the notice of the Secretary-cum-Director of Education that on the basis of the direction issued by the Department, teachers are being forcefully deputed by Heads of Schools for the said programme of the A & N Teachers’ Association.
Shri Sreekumar told the Secretary-cum-Director of Education that deputing such a large number of teachers from each school will definitely disturb the studies of students.
The Association requested the Secretary-cum-Director of Education to withdraw the above-said letter dated 28th October, 2015 of the Deputy Director of Education (Acad.) and allow the normal functioning of the schools without any hindrance on 31st October, 2015.
