Port Blair, Jan 09: Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) is an international program that was created by Rotary International to encourage strong leadership in youth. Young people chosen for their leadership potential attend an all-expenses-paid camp to develop and enhance leadership skills through activities conducted in an atmosphere of trust and respect.
The RYLA 2012 has been named LAKSHYA -The Focus and would be held from the 20th January 2012 to 23 rd January 2012 wherein students from Jawaharlal Nehru Rajkeeya Mahavidyalaya, Dr BR Ambedkar Institute of Technology, Pondicherry University, Industrial Training Institute would be participating. The venue would be KVK Hostel of CARI at Sippighat with about 45 participants.
The Chief Guest for the valedictory function will be by District Governor (Rotary club) of 3291 Rotarian. Angshuman Bondopadhyay from kolkatta, West Bengal. RYLA aims to teach what it takes to be an effective leader. Every RYLA includes the following topics of Fundamentals of leadership; Ethics of positive leadership; Importance of communication skills in effective leadership; Conflict management and problem solving ; Building self-esteem and self confidence Elements of community and global citizenship and Rotary’s purpose of service to the community and world. RYLA began in Rotary District 5340 in 1972 with 100 participants and has since grown to include more than 300 participants annually.
Rotary District is looking for outstanding young leaders and potential leaders from local colleges to apply for RYLA. Applicants should have some or all of these characteristics: A good academic record, school involvement, participation in non-school related activities. If you are selected to participate in RYLA, you will have the opportunity to discuss leadership and career opportunities and to exchange ideas about current issues with knowledgeable regional and local leaders, including many District Rotarians.
Each year, thousands of young people take part in the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) program worldwide.
Young people between the ages of 14-17 are chosen for their leadership potential. Award winners, known as delegates, attend seminar, camp, or workshop to learn advanced leadership skills. Delegates reinforce their leadership skills by using these new leadership tools in many activities which enhance these skills. Rotary clubs and districts select Delegates and facilitate the event’s curriculum.
