Port Blair, Sept 01: Coinciding with the ongoing “Fortnight on eye donation”, the Yuvasakthi (an NGO) and the National Health Mission, A&N Islands have jointly organised an eye donation camp on 1st September 2015 at Yuvasakthi Conference Hall, Toor Niwas, RGT Road, Port Blair.
At the outset, Mrs.Vani, Programme Coordinator, Yuvasakthi had welcomed the gathering. Mr.Ratindra Mallick and Mrs. Jamsira, Eye Donation Counsellors from the GB Pant Hospital took part and created awareness about eye donation where as many as forty youths from different areas had attended.
During their address, the participants were given tips on how to protect the eyes from scorching sun and dust in the context of increasing environmental pollution.
The participants were also appealed to donate their eyes in the light of the fact that, our eyes can live even after death. As many as ten participants had pledged to donate their eyes on the spot while many others have resolved to donate after taking the consent of their families.
The programme ended with the vote of thanks proposed by Mrs.Amrit Kaur, Vocational trainer of VTP, Yuvasakthi.
