Port Blair, Aug 20: Honest efforts will be made by the Andaman and Nicobar Police to provide responsive, accountable and transparent services to its citizens, said Director General of Police, Mr Rajesh Malik at his first interaction with local journalists on Thursday.
Police is part of the society and no stone will be left unturned to execute its mandated task of ensuring safety and security of the people, the DGP said. He also designated Mr Shibesh Singh, Superintendent of Police, South Andaman, as the Press Relations Officer of the A & N Police Force.
Lauding the role of the fourth estate, Mr Malik said that media plays the role of mirror of the society and media criticisms guide Police to redress public concerns. “Unlike other government agencies, media is more closely attached to the public and is more sentient of concerns. We’re open to feedbacks from media and will do our best to iron-out issues brought to our notice from time to time,” he said urging support to the media in his endeavour to improve police services in the islands.
Journalists present during the meeting highlighted various issues before the DGP requesting his intervention for their early redressal. Major among them include immigration of Bangladeshi nationals, improvement of traffic services, growing cases of gambling, sale of ganja, drunken driving, unauthorised roadside stop-over by private buses, increase in stray cattle menace and shortage of parking spaces. The DGP assured to look into the issues on priority.
