Today is 10th Death Anniversary of Late Shri Sarju Lal, who performed the stock character of Ravana for more than 36 years continuously in Andaman & Nicobar Islands till his last breath. He used to play the role of Ravana in Sri Ramleela presented every year during Durgapuja / Dushera festival.
He was a renowned theatre and Radio Drama Artist and a veteran Hockey Player too. He was the awardee of Lt. Governor’s commendation certificate for his meritorious services in the field of Theatre.
Basically he was Chief Head Warder of Jail Department and used to teach prisoners Hindi like Kovid,Praveen,Pragya affiliated by Rastra Bhasa Prachar Samity Wardha.
Major plays in which he had acted are- Ashad Ka Ek Din, Tuglaque,Kabeera Khara Bajaar Main,Kisi Ek Phool Ka Naam Lo,Thank You Mr.Glad,Kafan,Anand Dweep,Amrit Phal, Sri Ram Leela. Etc. Major Radio Plays were Tyagpatra, Doctor, Dakia,Hori, Akashdweep, Godaan, Etc.
