Port Blair, Aug 05: Endoscopic dilatation for narrowed esophagus (food pipe) due to lower esophageal web, was done for the first time in Islands by a balloon dilator with graded pressure .The patient presented with progressive inability to swallow solid and semisolid foods.
The above treatment has simplified the procedure from a complex operation to a single day treatment .Patient was discharged the next day with complete amelioration of her symptoms.
