Port Blair, June 12: Shri Manoranjan Bhakta, the eight times, Member of Parliament of A & N Islands and one of the most popular leaders of all times, is no more. Known from his down to earth approach, connection with grassroot people, a soft nature, helpful nature and political brilliance, Shri Manoranjan Bhakta will always be remembered as a mass public leader, who has ruled the heart of people for many decades.
According to reports, Shri. Bhakta passed away at his daughter’s residence at Salt Lake, Kolkata this evening, following a protracted ailment.
He was 76 and is survived by his wife and two daughters. He was elected to the Lok Sabha consecutively for seven times. The last rites took place at Kolkata today.
Meanwhile, the sitting Member of Parliament Shri Bishnu Pada Ray, has mourned the demise of veteran Congress leader, Shri Manoranjan Bhakta, who passed away at Kolkata today.
Shri BP Ray said that during the tenure as MP, Shri MR Bhakta contributed immensely to the development of the Islands and his loss has left a vacuum in the political scenario of the Islands.
He also conveyed his heartfelt sympathy to the members of the bereaved family to bear the irreparable loss.
The President, Pradesh Congress Committee, Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma, Chief Spokesperson, Shri K Ganeshan, Mr. A R Marudhvanan, State Organiser of DMK and other leaders have condoled the demise of veteran political leader of these islands, Shri Manoranjan Bhakta.
