Port Blair, June 12: The President, Pradesh Congress Committee, Mr Kuldeep Rai Sharma, Chief Spokesperson, Mr K Ganeshan and other leaders have condoled the demise of veteran political leader of these islands, Shri Manoranjan Bhakta. He was 76 and passed away after prolonged illness on Friday at about 4.30 pm at his residence at Salt Lake, Kolkata.
He was first elected as Member of Parliament for the Andaman and Nicobar Islands in 1977 to the 6th Lok Sabha. He served eight terms as Member of Parliament for the A & N Parliamentary constituency, seven of which were consecutive from 1977-1999. In 2010, Late Bhakta joined the Trinamool Congress party.
The Congress leaders have mourned the demise of the veteran leader and prayed for eternal peace for the departed soul. They also prayed for enough strength for the members of the bereaved family to bear the irreparable loss.
