Mayabunder, May 10: It is a welcome move by the administration to start a chartered flights for the relief of the Islanders but due to inadequate quota of tickets reserved for the district of N&M Andaman district, the residents are facing a lot of problem here.
Though populated next to South Andaman District, this district has a quota of 10 tickets only which is very less. People from far flung areas such as Baratang, Rangat, Kalighat, Diglipur come to Mayabunder one or two days ahead for availing tickets but sadly the go back empty handed.
“People of remote villages of Middle Andaman can reach to Mayabunder only at 8.00 am by bus and when they reach the chartered flight ticketing counter they usually find only a few people, who were standing in long queue since night are only getting tickets. The Administration must increase the ticket quota for North and Middle Andaman,” said a resident of Mayabunder.
