Port Blair, Apr 20: The Andaman and Nicobar Island Private Truck and Van Driver’s Association with the support of the Andaman Chamber of Commerce and Industry and various other trade organizations will hold an indefinite strike from April 22, 2015 to press for their demand for an immediate resolution to the ban imposed on transport vehicles carrying protruding articles as also to protest against the decision of the administration for annual hike of insurance premium of commercial vehicles.
“During the indefinite strike, all Hardware Shops, Transport Vans and Trucks, Jeeps and Cargo Autos, Furniture Shops, Fabrication Units, Civil Contractors, Saw Mill Units etc will cease commercial operations till their demands for relaxation in transport of hardware items are met,” K Ganeshan, the president of ANIPTVDA said today.
Besides, the Andaman Chamber of Commerce and Industry, various trade associations viz. Grain Dealers Association, Private Jeep and Cargo Auto Association, Saw Mill Association, Furniture Shop Association, Hardware Dealers Association, Taxi Union, Private Bus Union, Autorickshaw Union, Fabricators Association, Civil and Govt. Contractors Association, ATR Truck Owners Association, Tourist Vehicle Association, Quarry and Crusher Association, Iron and Scrap Dealers Association and Oil Tanker Owners and Drivers Association will participate in the indefinite strike.
“Our association along with other trade associations will also hold a total Andaman Bandh on April 22, 2015 from 6 am to 6 pm to press for our demands. A demonstration will also be held at Tiranga Park,” he added.
