Port Blair, Apr 07: The Delegate Session of the Annual Conference of the Non-Gazetted Government Officers’ Association was held on 5th April at Kerala Samajam Hall, Port Blair. In his presidential address, Shri H L Prasad, President of the Association remembered the struggles conducted by the Association to achieve the various facilities govt. employees are enjoying today and called upon the government employees to remain united in the fight against the forces that are trying to weaken the government structure.
The Delegate Session, at the outset, paid homage to the memory of trade union leaders and other government employees, who passed away during the period since last Conference in February, 2013. Thereafter, Shri T.S.Sreekumar, General Secretary presented the working report of the Association for the last two year while Shri Ashok Sharma, Finance Secretary of the Association presented the Audited Accounts. General Secretary’s report contained an overview of the international, national, local situations and details of the programmes conducted by the Association during the intervening period. Delegates from various Branches and Sub-Committees actively participated in the discussion on the General Secretary’s Report and Audited Accounts which were later on adopted unanimously.
The draft resolutions on various issues and problems affecting the government employees were presented in the meeting which was adopted after addition of a few more issues suggested by the delegates during the discussion. About 130 delegates and observers from various outstations and Port Blair/South Andaman, representing thousands of employees, attended the Delegate Session. A presidium comprising Shri H L Prasad, Shri S.Surender and Shri N K Paul conducted the proceedings of the Delegate Session.
Addressing the Conference, Shri VrighuBhattacharjee, Finance Secretary, Confederation of Central Govt. Employees & Workers, New Delhi called upon the govt. employees working under the Andaman and Nicobar Administration to strengthen the Non-Gazetted Govt. Officers’ Association in order to conduct movements against the anti-employee policies being pursued by the central government. He assured the Delegates in the Conference that the demands raised by them during the discussion will be taken up with the Govt. of India by the Confederation. He asked the Govt. of India to provide a grievance redressal mechanism for the employees working under the A & N Administration on the lines of Joint Consultative Machinery (JCM) or to provide representation for the A & N Islands in the existing JCM Scheme. He informed the Delegate Session that the Staff Side of JCM has already demanded merger of the posts of Lower Grade Clerks and Higher Grade Clerks.
SmtGeetaBhattacharjee, Asst. Convener, National Women’s Committee of the Confederation of Central Govt. Employees & Workers, New Delhi, while speaking in the meeting expressed her happiness to be a part of this Annual Conference and replied to the questions raised by the women delegates in the Conference. She formally declared the close of the year long Diamond Jubilee celebrations which started in November, 2013. Shri S.L.Vinjit, Secretary, Reception Committee, proposed the Vote of Thanks.
