Port Blair, mar 29: Vice Admiral HCS Bisht, AVSM, Director General Indian Coast Guard is on maiden visit from 29 Mar-02 Apr 15 in the A&N Islands. The Flag Officer assumed the charge of the Indian Coast Guard on 01 Feb 15. He is an alumnus of the National Defence Academy Khadakvasla, Pune and Naval Academy, Kochi. He was Commissioned in the Executive Branch of the Indian Navy as a Surface Warfare Officer on 01 Jul 1979.
The Admiral is a graduate of the Royal Naval Staff College, Greenwich (UK). He also attended the Naval Higher Command Course at the College of Naval Warfare, Karanja, Mumbai and an alumnus of the National Defence College New Delhi.
The Flag Officer during his long and illustrious career spanning about four decades, held various key Operational, Training and Staff appointments, both afloat and ashore. His important afloat appointments include Commander Work Up in the Indian Naval Workup Team at Kochi and Fleet Gunnery Officer of the Eastern Fleet at Visakhapatnam. He commissioned the Missile Corvette INS Kora as the Commanding Officer and has also commanded the Stealth Frigate, INS Tabar.
His important Training/Staff appointments include Training Commander INS Dronacharya at Kochi, Deputy Director Naval Plans Director Naval Intelligence and Naval Assistant to the Vice Chief of the Naval Staff at IHQ, MoD (N). He has also been the Defence Attaché (DA) at the High Commission of India, Singapore.
He was promoted to the Flag rank in Jan 2008 and took over the appointment of Assistant Controller of Carrier Projects at IHQ, MoD (N). His important Flag rank appointments include Chief of Staff, Southern Naval Command and Flag Officer Sea Training at Kochi, Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Fleet at Visakhapatnam and Asst Chief of Personnel (HRD) at IHQ, MoD (N).
He was promoted to the rank of Vice Admiral on 01 Sep 12 and appointed as the Controller Personnel Services (CPS) at IHQ, MoD (N). The Flag Officer is decorated with Ati Vishist Seva Medal.
Mrs Bimla Bisht, President Coast Guard Wives Welfare Association (CGWWA), will also be accompanying the Admiral during the visit to these pristine islands.
The DGICG during the visit will review the capacity building projects of Coast Guard in the A&N Islands, a communiqué received from PRO CG.
