Port Blair, Mar 26: Animal Science Division, ICAR- CIARI in collaboration with Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services has conducted a one day livestock health camp and awareness programme on foot and mouth disease in farm animals. The health camp was organised under the project on AICRP on Foot & Mouth Disease.
During the health camp a total of 68 cattle and 88 goats were examined and necessary medication and treatment were advised. Animals were also vaccinated with FMD vaccine as a part of the 18th round of FMD vaccination programme under the Foot & Mouth Disease control programme. Mineral mixtures and vitamin tonics were also distributed to the farmers in presence of Dr. M.S.Kundu, Principal Scientist, ICAR-CIARI, Dr. K.Mohammed, SVO, Veterinary Hospital, Garachrma, Shri. Maheshwaran, Sarpanch, Sippighat Panchayat and other staff members of ICAR-CIARI and DAH&VS.
The blood samples from the animals were also collected for screening of the important diseases and biochemical parameters. On the spot treatment for different clinical conditions were carried out by the staff members of the Veterinary Hospital, Garacharma.
During the camp, Dr. Jai Sunder, Sr. Scientist & PI of the project spoke about the importance of Foot & Mouth Disease vaccination for control and eradication from A & N Islands. Dr. M. S. Kundu, Principal Scientist, ICAR-CIARI highlighted the importance of feeding of mineral mixture for growth, reproduction and control of infertility among the dairy animals.
Dr. K. Mohammed, Sr. Veterinary Officer, Garacharma, DAH&VS, A & N Administration informed that the 18th round of FMD vaccination is in progress and urged all the farmers to cooperate for the successful vaccination programme.
