Port Blair, Feb 25: The Medical College of Andaman and Nicobar Islands will soon become a reality, infact final inspection and approval are the only things, which are pending for medical college.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha, the Member Secretary of Andaman Nicobar Islands Medical Education and Research Society (ANIMERS) and Directorate of Health services, Dr S.K. Paul today said that for medical college a Medical Council of India (MCI) inspection was done earlier and after inspection they have asked ANIMERS to rectify 27 problems by 28th Feb and submit a report again, so that they can arrange another inspection.
The Member Secretary of ANIMERS said that the ANIMERS has rectified all those problems, except a few because those are not possible at present, but for those works we have given supply orders etc. He also said that senior officers have already gone to mainland and tomorrow they are going to submit a report again.
“Almost 85% of the faculties have already joined and we hope that by 26th of this month we will be able to appoint the rest 15%. To start the Medical college, for the first two years all the infrastructure has been made available close to G.B. Pant Hospital and for that we have done the re-orientation and re-alignment of the G.B.Pant hospital,” Dr. Paul said.
He also said that new modern lecture theatre of 120 seated has been developed, modern medical library has been set up, DHS Annexed building has been converted into Administrative building of Dean, Medical College and Ladies Hostel, the Ayush building near DHS has been remodeled into House of Anatomy, Physiology and Bio-chemistry departments.
“The GOI has sanctioned the 1st installment of fund under centrally sponsored scheme to upgrade a District hospital into a Medical college and within a week or so the work will be started for the main hospital (medical college) on 100 acre land, situated at Dudh Line,” Member Secretary of ANIMERS said.
Finally he said that everything has been completed and the materials which the directorate has procured for the medical college like library books, equipments, lab accessories have also started coming and the only thing for the medical college which is pending is the visit of MCI and its clearance.
