Port Blair, Feb 23: National Science Day under the theme “Science for Nation Building” in honour of Nobel laureate and great Indian Physicist Sir C.V.Raman for his discovery of Raman Effect got started today with the first programme “Open Day” on 23rd February, 2015 to encourage visit of rural and urban dwellers to inculcate scientific temperament.
A group of youths from DIYAA representing from Hutbay, Wimberlygunj and Rangat of Technical School accompanied with Director, Father Patrick Alphonse and other group of SHG women from Wandoor, Guptapara, Port Mout, Loha Barrick, Prem Nagar and Bidnabad village of ACANI facilitated by Father Evans visited the Library, Central Lab, Central Instrumentation Facilities, Floriculture, Pulse block, Protected cultivation, collection of butterflies and Dweep Krishi Darpan. Beside video films on science from Science & Technology Department was also shown to the visiting group.
The highlight of the Open Day was direct interaction with Dr. S. Dam Roy, Director, ICAR-CIARI wherein the members expressed their happiness on giving the opportunity to meet, interact and learn about the science for Nation building. A total of 52 farmers beside visitors from mainland also visited.
The visit was coordinated by Dr. R.K. Gautam, Dr. S.K. Zamir Ahmed, Dr. Jai Sunder, Dr. V. Bhaskar, Dr. A.K. Singh, Mr. Amit Srivastava, Mr. Abhay Srivastava, Mrs. Rina Saha and Mr. Ali Akbar alongwith Mr. Siba Mahato and Mr. Raj Ganesh Babu project staff of Social Science Section.
On 24th & 25th of February, 2015 programme on “Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers Right” sponsored by PPV and FRA, New Delhi will be held for the farmers of South Andaman at Conference hall of Institute.
