Port Blair, Feb 19: Saddle Peak Green eco Club of GSSS, Diglipur organized a seminar on the theme “Combating desertification, land degradation and drought” on 18th February, 2015 in the School Library under National Environment Awareness Campaign, 2014-15. The seminar aimed at creating awareness among students of the school towards importance of fertile soil and bio farming.
Smti. Sreedevi, Assistant Director (Agri), Diglipur and Smti. Shirly Thomas, Assistant Director (Soil), North and Middle Andamans are the resource persons on that occasion. Mr. S.Gurumoorthy, Vice Principal of the School welcome the resource persons and asked the participants for active involvement in the seminar and to gain more information and knowledge related to modern techniques and methods of Agriculture.
Smti. Shirly Thomas, Assistant Director (Soil), North and Middle Andamans at the beginning of her presentation she has motivated that students through value based story and she discussed tangible steps to protect our field from harmful chemical fertilizers. She highlighted the importance of bio-manure, bio-pesticides in modern agriculture. She also explained in details about Apiculture (Bee-Keeping).
The resource persons are also discussed about formulation of some liquid manures. The seminar was concluded with vote of thanks given by Shri Chanchal Singha Roy, incharge of Eco Club
