Port Blair Jan 14: As part of the Army Week celebrations, the Army Component of the Andaman & Nicobar Command organised a blood donation camp at Birchgunj Military Station here today. Army Day is celebrated every year on 15 Jan, to commemorate the taking over of the reigns of the Indian Army by Lt Gen (later Field Marshal) KM Cariappa, OBE as the first Indian Commander-in-Chief (later designated as Chief of the Army Staff) from Gen Sir Roy Bucher, the last British Commander-in-Chief on 15 Jan 1949.
The camp was conducted at Central MI Room, Birchgunj Military Station with the technical support provided by a team headed by Dr Shahina Mustaqim of GB Pant Hospital, Port Blair. Brigadier Dinesh Shrivastava, the Army Component Commander inaugurated the camp which evoked a tremendous response with 193 Defence personnel and their families donating blood on the occasion. Such events reaffirm the dedication of the Armed Forces and the Andaman & Nicobar Command towards the Islands and the nation as a whole.
