Port Blair, Jan 09: Those who think Rs. 70,000 is too much for a bike, think twice, here are some people in Andaman and Nicobar Islands who can pay even Rs. 71,000 for Fancy Registration Number of their car.
According to reports, today the Transport Department during an auction has sold the Fancy Car Number – “K-9999” at Rs. 71,000. The number will now be placed in a SUV in Port Blair city. The closest bidder for this number had offered Rs. 20,000.
Not only this, another fancy number “K-0011” has been sold by the Transport Department to a lady during an auction at Rs. 42,500. The nearest bidder had offered Rs.20,000 for the number.
Call it status symbol, craze for fancy number or showcase of money power this new trend is there to last for long in Andaman, it seems.
As far as Transport Department is concerned, this is a welcome step. Instead of giving out Fancy Number to known and powerful people, auctioning the numbers to public will atleast generate some money for the Government.
