Port Blair, Jan 09: Dr Ajaib Singh, the Member, National Commission of Minorities today said that there are nearly nine schools in these Islands, which have been declared minority institutions. He requested the administration to financially support these schools to create better infrastructure because education is the only weapon which can create a good society. He also underlined the need for of mass awareness for scholarship schemes available with the government for students of Minority Community.
Interacting with the media persons at South Point Circuit House today he said that The Govt. of India is providing Rs.50 lakh as one time grant for the infrastructure development of the minority institutions.
Dr. Ajaib Singh also praised the unity among people of these islands, where people from different parts of the country live in perfect peace and harmony.
Dr. Singh also informed about his meeting with the ex-servicemen settlers at Campbell Bay who have urged for better air connectivity between Campbell Bay and Port Blair besides other issues. He also demanded the administration to give them a quota like OBC to them.
Answering questions of journalists he said that his visit was aimed at listening to the grievances of minority groups residing in these islands. Dr. Singh suggested for conducting the meeting of the A&N Minority Committee thrice in a year, enabling the minorities to put forth their views, suggestions and problems.
