Port Blair, Dec 29: The Lt. Governor has expressed his displeasure over holding of public functions by various Departments/Agencies, erecting shamiyanas and enclosures on roads, and causing serious disruption in the flow of traffic and inconvenience to commuters.
This is in the wake of the proposed function by the PBMC at Junglighat wherein shamiyanas and other enclosures had been erected right in the middle of the road. PBMC had organized the Foundation Stone laying ceremony for an Urban Renewal Project at Junglighat this morning.
On learning that it had been erected on public area, the Lt Governor cancelled his visit to the function and has reprimanded the concerned agencies for allowing such a thing to be put up right in the middle of the road.
He has expressed his displeasure over this state of affairs with the Police Department, the Office of the Deputy Commissioner and the PBMC. In this regard, he has issued strict directions that in future no public function shall be organised or allowed to come up on road or shamiyanas and other structures set up which cause disruption of traffic.
