Port Blair, Dec 29: An incident took place at Baratang on 28th December 2014 when some tourists after visiting Lime Stone Caves could not catch the last convoy from Baratang and they were stranded there. It has been found that the incharge of Tourist Help Desk was not available there to help the tourists out and hence he has been placed under suspension with immediate effect for showing disregard to his duties.
In his place an appropriate replacement has been posted as incharge of Tourist Help Desk at Baratang with immediate effect. Through this, the message is sought to be sent that all officials have to be diligent while performing their duties
It is pertinent to mention here that a Tourist Help Desk at Baratang has been established on the direction of the Lieutenant Governor by the Directorate of Tourism from 1st December 2014 to facilitate the tourists and a Receptionist from Tourism Department was posted as the incharge of the Help Desk there, Since Baratang has emerged as a major Tourist Destination of the Islands where thousands of tourists are visiting every day to see Limes Stone Caves and Mud Volcano.
The Lieutenant Governor has also deputed Joint Director (Tourism) Mr. Arun Gupta to Baratang to take stock of the situation and inspect the tourist facilities there.
