Port Blair, Dec 06: The Directorate of Shipping Services is conducting safety drills every week to educate passengers and create awareness among the people that how important is safety at sea as frequency of cases of man overboard are increasing.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha, the Deputy Director of Shipping Services, Mr R Veeriah has said that this time the DSS will be conducting a fire drill in the Dockyard involving Fire Brigade, ship staffs etc.
“The DSS already conducted a lot of safety drills on onboard passenger vessels which are plying in Harbour sector. We are teaching the DOs and DON’Ts, teaching people to wear Life Jackets etc. We have also displayed the DOs and DON’Ts at all the places,” Mr Veeriah added.
“We are very happy that people are coming forward to gain more knowledge, especially tourists come forward to learn more and we are teaching them,” the Deputy Director added.
