Port Blair, 25 Nov: The favourites Carnic-A has won the 21st Vice President of India Cup Football tournament 2014. In an exciting final match played yesterday at Bishop John Richardson Stadium, it defeated Carnic-B by 2-1. While distributing the prizes the chief guest, DGP Sudhir Yadav appreciated the players for their brilliant performance. He said that the youth of the Islands are very talented in sports and they should avail all the opportunities, they get, to show their talents. They should come out of the mind set of getting home sick and should not hesitate to go out of the Islands whenever they get chance to play at National level or International level.
The Guest of Honour Director of Sports Dharmendra Kumar in his address said that the department is committed to ensure better sports facilities in the Islands. He said that many initiatives are being taken for the betterment of the sports.
Rufas Robert of the Carnic-A was declared the best player of the tournament. The best Goal keeper award was given to D.Samuel of Territorial Army. The prize for the fastest goal was given to Malvin of Campbell bay team. Titas Jacob grabbed the highest scorer of the tournament award. Noncowry was declared the most disciplined team and Simun of Eduaction XI was felicitated for being the young promising player of the tournament.
The Tournament was organized by the Sports department in association with District Administration and Education department. Total 14 from the different parts of the Islands took part in the premier Soccer Championship.
