Port Blair Nov 12: As per the direction of the Hon’ble LG, the Department of Art and Culture, A&N Administration initiated presentation based on historical significance by Cultural organizations in the Cellular Jail as an added attraction for tourists and visitors which commenced in the month of October. Presently two shows in a week i.e. Wednesday and Saturday are held between 4 and 5 p.m. Artists of Dance Nritya Academy and Aditya Natya Academy are presenting chorographic presentation and a drama tilted ‘Battle of Aberdeen’ respectively. The visiting crowd is mesmerized by the theatrical performance especially with the Cellular Jail as a backdrop. They are enthralled at the stories being told through these enactments. This initiative of the Department has brought in a fresh element of art and has now added to the already existing attraction and pride of the National Memorial Cellular Jail. At the foresight of Hon’ble Lt. Governor, the efforts of the Administration have paid off. Such an initiative has enhanced the overall ambience of the Cellular Jail and also provided a regular platform to island artists to showcase their talents.
The Department also invites more cultural associations to present performances based on island’s history which can be incorporated in the schedule. Cultural organizations may approach Director (Art & Culture) for more information in this regard.
