Port Blair, Nov 03: The vehicular population in Havelock Island have increased many fold and the number of tourists both foreigners and domestic have increased to five times high in this year. Due to lack of better traffic management plan by the Administration things are becoming difficult for public and police unit of Havelock Island.
However, recently administration has decided to do something in this field. Number of meetings were held and senior officers paid visit to Havelock to see the ground realities.
But, parking areas which were earmarked have already been encroached and no efforts were shown to remove those encroachments. Some other areas have been earmarked, but there is no approach road.
Andaman Sheekha correspondent recently paid a visit to Havelock and interacted with vehicle owners, agent and few PRI members to assess the situation, which revealed that the local police do their best to manage the vehicular traffic despite of zero infrastructure including parking space etc which are being appreciated by everyone.
Though no fixed fair for public carriage has so far been finalised by the administration but local police do their best to check on the charges being made by the vehicle owners including auto drivers.
The only problem is that the Administration is delaying in finalizing the fixed fair for public carriage in Havelock Island and if it is done, it would become very easy for Police to control the situation better.
