Port Blair, Nov. 03:The Member of Parliament of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray has once raised the issues relating to providing relief and compensation to the tsunami affected farmers of these remote Islands, whose land were submerged during 2004 after the tsunami.
Mr. Ray has written separate letters to the Prime Minister and Home Minister of India urging their immediate intervention, in this regard.
In his letter Mr. Ray said that many affected farmers have not accepted the compensation as they are not ready to surrender the land.
“These farmers may be released the compensation @ 9.39 lakhs per hectare by treating the same as relief package without insisting on surrendering of their land sub-merged after tsunami,” the MP said.
The MP also requested that those affected farmers who have surrendered their land and taken the compensation, may be reconsidered to release back the surrendered land by treating the compensation amount as a relief package.
He said this gesture in providing compensation will go a long way in providing succor to the farmers who are in dire need of assistance.
