Port Blair, October 27, 2014: In Andaman & Nicobar, the postal term deposits and savings by the public have registered impressive growth.
Within the first six months of current financial year, the total savings have exceeded Rs 17 crore, which is about Rs 1 crore more than the total savings of the last financial year, said the Director of Postal Services, Port Blair, Mr S.Kandasamy. He said the number of policies under the Rural Postal Life Insurance is also picking up momentum.
Eight post offices in Port Blair including the Head Post Office and the Branch Post Offices at Aberdeen Bazaar, Junglighat, Haddo, Wimberleygunj, Bambooflat and Shadipur would soon be linked with Core Banking System (CBS) with ATMs in the first phase, and then gradually all the post offices would be brought under the electronic banking arrangement. Preliminary works for the CBS system has already started, he informed.
Within a month, customers can have postal stamps with their own photos as part of the “My Stamp” scheme. Apart from thumbnail photos of individuals, logos of institutions, artworks, images of heritage buildings, wildlife or flowers as preferred by customers can be made into postal stamps, Mr Kandasamy said. Each “My Stamp” sheet would be containing 12 stamps, which would be made for a fee of Rs 300 and the stamps are allowed for posting letters or articles also. Corporate customers can place orders for as low as 500 sheets, and individuals can order for even a single sheet, he elaborated. (PIB)
