Port Blair, Oct 27: On the eve of Diwali, the South Andman Police have seized Rs.1,21,930/- from gambling dens at different places of Port Blair and arrested 51 gamblers under A&N Gambling Regulation 1951.
With a view to curb gambling activities during Diwali celebrations, the District Special Police Team comprising of ASI M. Adbul Rasheed, HCs Sanjay Kujur Surya Narayan Constables Mohd Imran. Ashish Mallick. Rakesh Toppo, M. Raja Rao, Tanuj Kr. Dakua, Sartaj Khan & Abhay Kr. Yadav have conducted raids on 22nd & 23rd October at seven different gambling dens at APWD Workshop Division Mohanpura, Shadipur, School Line Jawahar Colony School Line, Ranchi Basti and Haddo Fisheries colony and Lamba Line. 41 persons were caught with playing cards and `95,420/- were seized from the gambling dens.
Meanwhile, On 23rd October), the team of PS Chatham have raided in two different gambling dens at Lillypur and Haddo Fisheries colony and apprehended 10 persons with playing cards and `26,510/- gambling money have been seized from the dens.
